The Asian Skincare Routine // La rutina de cuidados faciales asiática

Por lo que he leído, en Asia cuidan mucho más su piel que en occidente, y ello se traduce en una rutina más compleja y larga.  Oscila entre cinco y diez pasos y se le conoce como el “método de capas”.  Un día comencé a contarle a unas amigas sobre este tipo de rutinas y se perdieron alrededor del cuarto paso.  Me dijeron que simplemente no podrían hacer eso, porque no tienen el tiempo.  Ya lo mencioné antes, yo también tengo poco tiempo disponible pero, ¿en realidad ocupa tanto tiempo?  Veamos en el siguiente diagrama, que al igual que en la entrada pasada los pasos esenciales están en la caja principal mientras que los opcionales afuera.  Las principales fuentes para hacer este diagrama son Hope in a Blog y Skin &Tonics –maravillosos blogs en los que puedes aprender mucho de las rutinas asiáticas.

As far as I’ve read, Asians take much more care of their skins than westerns, and that translates into a more complex and long routine.  It oscillates around five to ten steps, it’s called the “layering” method , or also known as “millefeuille” by the French. I remember a day when I told some friends I was starting with an Asian style skincare routine, they got lost after the fourth step and told me they could never do all of that.  They just don’t have the time.  As I’ve said in the previous post, I’m usually in a rush so I don’t have much time either.  But, does it really take a lot of time?  Let’s take a look.  As in the previous post, here is a diagram showing the order, “Essential” is in the main box, while the optionals are outside the box.  My main sources for this are the posts in Hope in a Blog and Skin & Tonics –great sites where you can learn about Asian skincare.

Limpieza con aceite / Oil cleansing	Aceite que se usa para desmaquillar. Carrier oil or a pre-made mix of oils to remove makeup.	El aceite remueve el maquillaje, el bloqueador solar y la grasa de la piel –puedes leer un poco más de esto aquí. Oil takes away all makeup, sunscreen and oils –you can read a bit more about this here.  This is a makeup remover.
Limpiador espuma / Foam cleanser	Producto soluble al agua con el que retiras suciedad, grasa y maquillaje, así como lo que pudo quedar de la limpieza anterior.   Water soluble product that takes away dirt, and the remains of oil and makeup that could be left from previous cleansing.	Después de retirar el maquillaje, bloqueador solar, etc., ahora si puedes limpiar tu piel. After you took away makeup and sunscreen, you can now clean your skin.
Exfoliante / Exfoliant	Producto que remueve las células muertas para mostrar nueva piel.  Puede ser un exfoliante físico (de los que tienen gránulos) pero también hay los llamados peeling gel que irritan tu piel menos. A product that removes dead skin cells to reveal new skin.  It can be a scrub, but there are also many peeling gels that are irritate your skin less than scrubs.	Ayuda a reducir los poros obstruidos, empareja el tono de la piel, y le quita lo apagado al rostro así como apoya a reducir algunas arrugas. It helps to reduce clogged pores, uneven skin tone, dullness, and deeper wrinkles.
Crema de masaje / Massage cream	Crema que aplicas en tu rostro, la dejas reposar por unos minutos y después masajeas. A cream you apply to your face, wait a couple of minutes and then start massing.	Este es uno de los pasos que más tiempo lleva, pero me parece importante.  Los masajes faciales ayudan a mejorar la circulación de la sangre, previenen las líneas de expresión y muy importante, te ayudan a relajarte –algo que no tiene precio en un estilo de vida agitado. This is one of the true time consuming step in the routine, however I believe it’s important.  Facial massage helps to improve the circulation of blood and prevents fine lines to appear, but most important, helps you to relax –which in a rushing life is always well greeted.
Mascarilla / Mask	Producto que aplicas en tu piel y la dejas reposar por 15-30 minutos –dependiendo del producto.  Probablemente las más conocidas son las de algodón que parecen casco de Ironman, pero las mascarillas tradicionales también funcionan –incluyendo las de arcilla y otras más. Product you apply to your skin and leave it there for around 15-30 minutes –depending on the product.  Probably the most known are the sheet masks that can somehow look like an Ironman helmet, but traditional masks can be also used here –including clay, peel off, etc.	Se pueden usar 1-2 veces a la semana o cuando necesitas un arreglo rápido.  Si usas las de algodón no necesitas lavar tu rostro después, pero si es necesario después de una de arcilla.  También me parece que ayudan a relajarse. This can be used 1-2 times a week or when you need a quick fix.  You don’t need to wash your face after applying a sheet mask, but you do after a clay one.  I also believe this helps you to relax.
Tónico / Toner	Producto más o menos líquido que se usa para suavizar la piel.  También se puede llamar tónico, loción o agua.  Aun cuando se puede aplicar con un algodoncito (como los normales) es preferible usar tus manos. A fairly liquid product applied to soften skin.  It can also be referred as toner, lotion or water.  Even when a cotton can be used (like for western tones) using your hands is preferable.	Suavizan la piel para mejorar la absorción de los siguientes productos. They soften the skin to improve the absorption of further products.
Tratamiento / Treatment	Producto con una alta concentración de ingredientes importantes que llegan a las capas más profundas de la epidermis.  Puede ser líquido o gel, también se le llama Esencia, Ampula o Serum. Lo que conocemos como serum aplica en este paso. Product with high concentration of key ingredients to treat the deeper layers of the epidermis.  This can have a liquid or gel consistency.  They can be called Essence, Ampoule or Serum.  Your regular serum would fit here.	Se usa para tratamientos específicos, muy parecido a lo que conocemos con serum. This is used to target special concerns, so it’s very similar to the western treatment.
Fijación de la hidratación / Moisture lock	Producto para fijar la humectación y prevenir que se vaya.  Puede ser una emulsión o un gel. Product used to lock the moisture and prevent it from escaping.  It can be an emulsion or cream.	Previene que los nutrientes que usaste antes se vayan. It prevents the previous products to escape, so they can do what they are meant to your skin.
Tratamiento específico / Specifit treatment	Producto específico, como tratamiento para arrugas o para pecas. Product for a specific concern like wrinkle fillers or spot treatments	Depende de tus necesidades It depends on your concerns.
Mascarilla de noche / Sleeping pack	Crema de tratamiento que se puede usar diario o algunas veces por semana.  Se aplica en la noche y así se duerme, al día siguiente sólo debes lavar tu rostro con agua. Treat creams which can be used daily or a couple of times a week and stay overnight.  You don’t need to wash your face the morning after.	Funciona básicamente para humectar más tu piel. It mostly works for further moisturizing your skin.
Protección Solar / Sun protection	Hay mucha variedad, desde los bloqueadores solare en crema, líquidos, aceite, y polvo.  El más conocido es el líquido. There’s a big variety from sun creams, to sun pacts, to sun powders.  The most know for us may be the regular sunscreen.	La protección solar es el tratamiento anti envejecimiento más efectivo.  Por ello, es mejor usar un bloqueador solar por separado y quedarse sólo con la protección de tu crema. Sun protection is the most effective anti-aging treatment.  For that reason, it’s better to use a separate sunscreen and not just rely on your moisturizer SPF.
