Mac Bare my Soul palette + Nars Rotonde FOTD

I'm currently in a phase that makes me not feel excited about Mac stuff anymore.  I love makeup collections, but seems that Mac comes with a new one almost every week, no one can keep track of that.  I also dislike that they are too close, that it doesn't give me enough time to play with the collection, to enjoy it before there's a new one -in fact, I feel like that also about Bobbi Brown's collections.  Worst, when you get to the counter, many things are already sold out -in Mexico, that happens especially to brushes.  I also used to get Mac stuff when I needed a specific eyeshadow shade, and with all their universe of shades, it was easier to find one.  However, since Inglot arrival I'd rather get specific eyeshadows there, they have plenty of variety, good texture and better price.  For those two reasons, I rarely buy Mac stuff now -except for the brush cleanser.

Estoy actualmente en una fase en la que los productos de Mac no me llaman la atención.  Me gustan las colecciones de maquillaje, pero pareciera ser que Mac sale con una diferente cada semana, es imposible seguirlas todas.  Me desagrada que como están tan juntas, no me da tiempo de probar los productos de la colección antes de que salga la nueva -algo muy semejante me pasa también con las colecciones de Bobbi Brown.  Peor aún, apenas salió la colección ya está agotado -eso pasa particularmente con las brochas en México.  Anteriormente, acudía a Mac cuando necesitaba un tono en específico de sombras, ya que con tanta variedad era más fácil encontrarlo.  Sin embargo, desde que llegó Inglot, mejor busco tonos específicos ahí, hay mucha variedad, buena textura y mejor precio.  Por esas dos razones, rara vez compro algo en Mac, salvo por el liquido para limpiar brochas.  

Having said that, I found something that really caught my eye: Bare my Soul palette. I saw it featured in some blogs (Cafe makeup, Temptalia) but it was until I was Mariella's FOTD (from Musing on Beauty) with it that I fell -you can check her stunning FOTD here.  I must say, when you first look at this, seems like just another Mac quad with neutral shades, but it's way more.  The four shades included are Romantico (light taupe bronze, Veluxe Pearl), Bare My Soul (frosted gold, Lustre), Friendly (deep bronze chocolate, Veluxe Pearl), and When in Rio (deep green with copper pearl, Frost). The shades over here are pigmented and soft, which isn't a Mac constant in my experience.  If used over cream eyeshadow, they look amazing. They are easy to use and they blend well.  Since this quad is sold out almost everywhere, I think I will dive into my stash to see if I can find other similar shades.  Here is my first attempt with this:

Habiendo dicho esto, me encontré algo que si llamó mi atención: la paleta Bare my soul.  La vi en algunos blogs como Cafe Makeup y Temptalia, pero fue el look que Mariella (de Musing on Beauty) hizo con ella que me enamoré -puedes ver este hermoso look aquí.  Debo decir que la primera impresión de la paleta es que es otra paleta de Mac con tonos neutros, pero va más allá.  Los tonos que incluye son Romantico (bronce grisaseo claro, veluxe pearl), Bare my Sould (dorado escarchado, lustre), Friendly (bronce chocolate oscuro, veluxe pearl) y When in Rio (verde oscuro con destellos cobres, frost).  Son sombras pigmentadas y suaves, características que no son una constante en mi experiencia c on mac.  Si se usan sobre una base en crema se ven maravillosas.  Son fáciles de usar y se difuminan bien.  Debido a que este cuarteto está agotado en casi todos los puntos de venta, creo que daré un clavado en mi colección a ver si encuentró algún tono semejante.  Aquí está mi primer intento con los tonos:

Pierre Hardy & Nars: Boys Don't Cry & Rotonde blushes

Creo que desde mi entrada sobre blushes rojos ya se nota que últimamente mi obsesión son los blushes intensos.  Hoy les muestro dos que van perfectamente con la descripción: Boys Don't Cry y Rotonde, que pertenecen a la colección de Nars inspirada en Pierre Hardy.

Hay varias cosas que decir de estos rubores, en principio que son enormes!!!  Traen cerca de 13 gr (0.45 oz) cuando un rubor normal de Nars trae 4.5 gr (0.16 oz) y la diferencia en precio no es tan sustancial.    Tienen un diseño geométrico en dorado, pero que con el uso va desaparenciendo dejando un rubor prácticamente mate.

En la foto se puede ver a lo que me refiero con el diseño, y me temo que ya también saben cuál fue el primero en llegar a mi casa -y como no, un tono hermoso titulado como mi canción favorita de The Cure :)  Los tonos son muy veraniegos: Boys Don't cry es un tono coral (Nars lo define como toronja rosa) mientras que Rotonde es un naranja oscuro (Nars lo define como Tiger Lily).

Digamoslo así, Mac busca ahorrarnos algo de tiempo en decidir qué tono de sombra va con qué rubor o que tono de labios, o qué tono de uñas: es así que saca esta colección en la que ya incluye: sombra, lipstick, gloss, delineador de labios y esmalte de uñas.  De esta forma, ya podemos estar todas combinaditas.

Debo admitir que no soy muy afecta a las colecciones de MAC, pero me agrada la idea de esta coleccion.  Al menos te permite un look rápido para esos días en los que no quieres decir qué usar.

MUB challenge: Mexican telenovela look

There's a challenge at makeup alley makeup board about doing a look based on Mexican telenovelas from the 90's, which means a lot of makeup on. The inspiration pics provided were mostly from Thalia's telenovelas, Maria Mercedes mostly. Since those were on tv when I was a child, I keep memories of other celebrities who were out those days and decided to get inspiration from Bibi Gaytan: Thalia's rival in people's preferences at that moment.  She was in the teen band Timbiriche as Thalia, and was featured in Alcanzar una Estrella 2 (the first Telenovela Ricky Martin was in) and Dos Mujeres, un Camino (with Eric Estada, who was in a cop series in the US in the 80's). Here are my inspiration pics:

As you can see, smokey eyes, mostly brownish blush and as typical in Mexican telenovelas (still nowadays) strong contouring.

So what's rose gold anyway?

Rose Gold is a very popular shade among makeup enthusiasts, or at least among the ones I talk to. Think about it, it's golden but not yellow but rose, and think rose as a kind of pinky, sounds pretty natural, isn't it? However, I don't find all cosmetic companies think the shade the same. I decided to look for all the rose gold shades I own, or the ones I thought could be and swatched them. Here they are:

From left to right:

1. Gleam Body Radiance, Rose Gold
2. Bobbi Brown Rose Gold shimmerbrick
3. Bobbi Brown Rose Gold eyeshadow
4. Sleek Rose Gold blush
5. Shiseido Beach Grass eyeshadow trio (middle)
6. Laura Mercier Rose Gold cream eyeshadow
7. Nars Cythere velvet gloss lip pencil
8. NYC liquid lip shine 554

As you can see, all of them have some amount of pink and some gold, but some are more pink and other more gold.  The most golden are Gleam and Shiseido, while the pinkest are  Bobbi Brown shimmerbrick, Sleek and NYC. In a more balance between the two shades are Bobbi Brown eyeshadow and Laura Mercier cream eyeshadow, those are the ones I would consider Rose Gold.  On the other side, I find Nars Cythere more brown than Rose Gold.

Catrice C'mon Chameleon

Esta es una de las sombras mas complejas que tengo, el tono es muy difícil de describir, salvo porque es un camaleón. En el empaque se ve como un tono verde grisáceo, y a partir de ello quise buscar tonos semejantes dentro de mis sombras. Recientemente empezó mi interés en los tonos verdes, así que no tengo muchas.

LATM: Red blush (Sleek, Guerlain, Shiseido, Nars, Makeup Forever, Mac)

I'm currently loving bold blushes, especially red ones. I used to be afraid of them since I thought I could look clownish. However, I recently found out you can get a marvelous flushed look with it, you just have to keep it sheer. So, I decided to show you today the ones I currently own:

Now, here are heavy swatches:

From left to right:

1. Sleek Molten
2. Sleek Bon Fire
3. Sleek Furnace
4. Guerlain Red Hot (the small part)
5. Shiseido Orchid (RD401)
6. Nars Exhibit A
7. Makeup Forever 99
8. Mac Love Thing

The bolder ones are Bon Fire, Furnace and Exhibit A. I actually find Bon Fire and Exhibit A are too close, just a slightly different undertone. Exhibit A leans a little bit more orange.

The ones I find sheerer and then better to start with are Molten, Red Hot and Orchid. Especially Orchid, since it leans to pink.

MUFE 99 can also be worn as an eyeshadow while Love Thing is a nice red for fall.

My personal favorites are Bon Fire and Exhibit A, yes the boldest. As a recommendation to use it, you need to pair it with some bronzer to avoid the clownish look.  A video by MonsiieurAlex was very helpful to me to learn how to use red blush, so I'm sharing you the link:  http://youtu.be/mq_IRULlz4w

Making neutrals more fun: 2nd try with Burberry Pale Barley & Nars Mad Mad World

I must admit I left behind my efforts to make Burberry Pale Barley work because I just fell in love with 3 marvelous greenish shades (Chanel Jade Shore, Nars Euphrate and Dior Outremer).  However, I decided I could keep on loving greens while still looking for options to make this neutral shade more fun.  So, I decided to try it with the green part of Nars Mad Mad World.

Nars matte eyeshadows aren't the best in the market, in fact, it's very difficult to find good mattes among all brands.  Probably Inglot mattes are among the best in my opinión.  In particular, this duo is great.  It doesn't feel chalky and it's easy to blend into other shades.  I used Pale Barley all over the lid, Mad Mad World (green) on the outer V and I lined with Bobbi Brown Ivy Shimmer gel eyeliner.

I found this to be a nice eye of the day for a casual Friday.  

Disclaimer: I know many people love this shade, I actually used to last year.  However, I found it a bit blah lately, especially because I'm loving bolder shades this year.  Anyway, I decided to give it a try in less neutral combos before purging it. 

¿Dónde comprar Sleek y Catrice en México?

Les comparto la foto de lo que tengo de estas marcas (Sleek y Catrice), no es mucho, pero la verdad es que estoy descubriéndolas.

En ambos casos, son marcas con excelente calidad y a precios accesibles.  Hace mucho que no les compartía datos sobre en donde compro maquillaje. Particularmente, aquellas marcas de reciente arribo a México.  

Sleek

Es una marca inglesa, que si frecuentan el canal de YouTube de Pixiwoo van a notar que con mucha frecuencia usan las paletas de sombras.  También al leer blogs españoles he encontrado que las usan mucho.  Las sombras son suaves, super pigmentadas.  En cuanto a textura me recuerdan a los tríos de Shiseido.  Algunas de las paletas de sombras más conocidas son: Oh So Special!, Storm, Acid y Ultra Mattes 2 -esta última, tiene tonos muy parecidos a la Smoked de Urban Decay, por una tercera parte del precio.  

Sin embargo, además de las paletas los rubores son una maravilla.  El primero que probé fue el Rose Gold, que es un tono melocotón con un poco de brillo dorado -de hecho es lo que yo esperaba del Orgasm de Nars.  No me tomen a mal, me encanta el Orgasm simplemente que al leer la descripción del color yo me imaginé algo como el Rose Gold de Sleek.  

También tengo el Blush by 3 en Flame, que en el mismo empaque trae 3 rubores coordinados.  El que yo tengo, son tonos rojizos.  Uno de ellos es muy parecido al Exhibit A de Nars.  Son super pigmentados, así que hay que ponerse poquito y difuminar muy bien.  No pienso dar mayores detalles de estos productos, porque me parece ameritan su propia reseña en lo individual.

Esta marca no sé que tan conocida sea en Mexico, yo la descubrí gracias a los foros de Makeup Alley y al blog de Kate, Drivel about Frivol. De hecho en ese blog puedes encontrar varios tonos. Yo por el momento solo tengo una sombra que es la C'mon Chameleon, que les reseñare próximamente. Es uno de los tonos más complejos que tengo en mi colección.  Solo puedo hablar por las sombras, que son muy pigmentadas y a precios muy accesibles. 

Ahora que lo pienso, creo que debo darme una vuelta a ver qué más encuentro de esta marca.

The Marshmallow brush!!! (Chanel Les Beiges Kabuki)

For Diane, who named the brush

This is the kabuki brush that’s part of Chanel’s Les Beiges, it’s meant to work with the powder.  It was named like that at MakeUpAlley boards.  I don’t think it’s a must in a stash unless you’re obssesed with super soft brushes.  I’ve heard Tom Ford or Hakudoho brushes are even softer, and they have natural bristles when Chanel is synthetic.  However, those brands aren’t available here, so I’ll have to stay with Chanel. 

Esta es la brocha kabuki parte de Les Beiges de Chanel, está pensaba para usarse con los polvos del mismo nombre.  La llamaron “marshmallow brush” (la brocha de malvavisco) en los foros de MakeUpAlley.  No creo que sea una brocha sin la que una no pueda vivir, salvo que tengas una obsesión con las brochas super suaves.  Sé que las brochas de Tom Ford y Hakudoho son aún más suaves y de fibras naturales –esta es sintética.  Sin embargo, como esas marcas no las venden acá, tendré que conformarme con la de Chanel.

A twist of yesterday's green EOTD -with a hit of Pixiwoo's Lana del Rey tutorial

As you may have realized by now, I'm currently loving two things at the moment: the first is Keira Knightley's makeup looks (a taste that's a really constant in my life) and green eyeshados -a newly discovered love.  However, I should add a third love: winged eyeliner.  So, today I tried to use all my loves in the same look and here's the result.

Como creo que ya se dieron cuenta, hay dos cosas que me encantan actualmente: los looks de Keira Knightley (una constante en mi vida) y las sombras verdes (un amor recientemente adoptado).  Aunque, debería agregar un tercero: el delineado con rabillo.  Así que hoy, traté de usarlos todos en el mismo look y esto fue lo que salió.

Quick smokey eyes with Chanel Stylo Eyeshadow

Last week I was just so tired that I woke up a bit late, so I was in a hurry to arrive on time to my job. I had to get my eyes done pretty fast and this was the best I could come off with, all using Chanel new Stylo Eyeshadow: Moon River all over (from lash line to brow bone), Pink Lagoon on lid and Black Stream on lashline… all blended with Naked 2 palette brush.  Some black eyeliner on the waterline and mascara.  I just loved this look and it was still acceptable after 12 hours.

La semana pasada estaba ya tan cansada que un día me desperté un poco tarde, y tuve que arreglarme lo más rápido posible.  Para mis ojos, lo mejor que se me ocurrió fue usar las nuevas sombras en barra de Chanel (stylo yeux): Moon River sobre todo el párpado, desde las pestañas hasta la ceja, Pink Lagoon en el párpado móvil y Black Stream como delineador difuminado.  Todo lo difuminé con la brocha que viene en la paleta Naked 2, un poco de delineador negro en la waterline y mascara.  Me gustó mucho y lo mejor fue que 12 horas después, mis sombras seguían intactas.

Jennifer Lawrence @ Cannes

There has been a huge Jennifer Lawrence boom lately, and her red carpet outfits are just amazing.  She and Dior just create dreamy lady-like outfits -as you may notice, I adore lady-like looks, even when my personal style isn't super lady.  Anyway, during the premiere of Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy of a Plain Indian) at Cannes festival, she just looked stunning both outfit and makeup.

I'm really wondering which lipstick did she use???  I just need to get it!!!  In fact, I think I need to try the whole makeup look :D
