Last weekend I decided to finally make a visit to the “Memory and Tolerance Museum” here in Mexico City.  It was a great experience with a lot to tell, so I will have a couple of non-makeup posts to share over here.  I will start with the last exhibition I visited, and there are several reasons for this.  The first one is, this exhibition seems to be the one that will be leaving the soonest from what I visited, so I really need to encourage you to go and visit it.  Second reason, as an art-lover and Mexican, I need to support young Mexican artists and the author is not only a graphic artist but an orchestra director.  Third and probably most important reason: I met him last year at one of the Mexican Council on Foreign Affairs youth program events, and he showed me some of the pictures you will see in the exhibit, so supporting this young Mexican artist is even more important.

I will let the author himself tell you a little bit of this exhibition:

This exhibition was launched after the Immigrant Day (an affair that’s particularly important in this country) and shows you the emotions of people who suffer racial and religious discrimination in Bosnia (the Balkans, Europe, just in case you want to look for it in a map).  I highly recommend you reading a bit to refresh your memory on the Bosnia war, or visiting the permanent exhibition of the museum before taking a look at this one.  By doing so, you will be able to understand Ricardo’s work better.  Without any context you will just see pictures of people, if you refresh your memories on the subject, you will not only see pictures of people, but will be able to feel the emotions of those people.

I’m just sharing one of the pictures, as an invitation to go and see the rest for yourself.  I think this one picture and the quote are enough to tell you why should visit this exhibition.

Ivo Andric

“God in heaven that rules over us, that knows everything; please take your sight back to Bosnia and to us who have been born there and eat their bread.  Give us what every day, each of us asks you in each own way.  Give peace to our hearts and harmony to our city; stop the blood and the war fire.  We have the need of the bread of peace”. (Free translation done by me).
Ivo Andric

After this exhibit, the phrase in Miss Sarajevo lyrics makes much sense: “Is there a time for khol and lipstick?”  Yes, there’s a frivolous world out there, and certainly this blog seems to be part of it, but there’s also another one that’s only worried about survival.  I’m not inviting you to visit this exhibition to feel sorry about what this people suffer and/or fortunate of not being in such situation, I’m inviting you to learn about what happens in other parts of the world, understand it and encourage tolerance –which in the long term will help avoid this suffering.

... About the blogger

I’ve been a beauty junkie before beauty blogs became that popular. I’ve always loved HE makeup, since my mom gave me as a gift my first dior quint and gloss. Many friends and acquaintances asked me for makeup recommendations and sometimes even to do their makeup. So just one day, I decided to share my thoughts and experience by writing a blog.
