Shopping my Stash: Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense #20 (obsidian black) & #23 (Madre Perla) + Nars Bavaria eyeshadow

He decidido hacer low/no buy por algunos meses, eso significa que estaré comprando muy poco maquillaje por algún tiempo.  Hay varios motivos para esta decisión.  El primero es que a medida que pasa el tiempo, me impresiona menos el maquillaje.  Por favor no me malinterpreten, me sigue encantando el maquillaje pero cada vez me impresionan menos los lanzamientos y las colecciones de edición limitada –en particular las de MAC que he ignorado por completo durante alrededor de 6 meses.  No siento la urgencia de comprar una colección completa, de hecho, me parece que mi colección actual está muy completa así que si el tono o la textura no me parecen increíbles, simplemente no lo voy a comprar.  Otro motivo es que he encontrado una técnica para el maquilla de ojos que me parece fabulosa (45 grados) y que quiero probar con todas las combinaciones posibles –lo que se traduce en ver qué tonos tengo mi colección ya.  Finalmente, aunque no es la última, tal vez se hayan percatado que las fotos de este blog están mejorando ligeramente, y dicha mejora requirió una pequeña inversión, por lo que cambié maquillaje por mejores fotos tanto en el blog como en mi vida.

I decided to go on a low/no buy for a few months.  There are several reasons for this decision.  The first one is that as time goes by, I’m feeling less impressed with makeup.  Don’t get me wrong, I still love makeup and I totally adore to do my makeup, but I’m feeling less impressed with new launches and certainly with limited edition collections –especially MAC’s that I’ve totally ignored for around half a year now.  I don’t feel the urge to get the entire collection to feel complete, in fact, my stash is fairly complete so if I don’t totally love the shade or the texture, I think I’m not getting it.  Another reason is that I’ve found an eyeshadow placement technique that I totally love (45 degrees) and feel the urge to try it will all the combos available to me –and that translates into stash shopping.  Finally, but not least, you may have realized the pictures in this blog have improved quite a bit, and such improvement required some investment.  So, I sacrificed buying new makeup –which I don’t need- in order to improve the pictures I take –for blog and for the rest of my life.

Luego de tanta elucubración, déjenme mostrarles un look con la técnica de los 45 grados usando productos de colecciones pasadas que me han gustado mucho.  Las estrellas en este caso son dos sombras de Giorgio Armani, de la gama Eyes to Kill Intense, que en mi humilde opinión son de las más complejas en cuanto a texturas y tonos que he encontrado.  Son un punto intermedio entre los pigmentos sueltos y las sombras compactas, con lo mejor de ambos mundos: son como pigmentos pero los tienes en un empaque y no se hace un caos al tratar de aplicarlas.  Más aún incluyen varios tonos que combinados dan uno nuevo, así que además de complejo es divertido.  En esta ocasión usé #20 (obsidian black) y #23 (madre perla) que son de la colección de Giorgio Armani Beauty para verano de 2012.  Ya que ambas son muy brillosas, decidí buscar un contraste de terminados y para ello agregué la sombra Bavaria de Nars (de la colección otoño 2013), que es casi mate.

After writing this lucubrations, let me show you a 45 degree EOTD using some items from past collections that I really like.  The main stars here are Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Intense eyeshadows, which in my humble opinion are among the most complex texture and shade that I’ve tried.  They are in a middle point between loose and pressed eyeshadows, giving you the best of both worlds: a highly pigmented shade with the convenience of having it in a pot and not falling over everywhere.  And the shades are a mix of several that used swirled all over end up with a surprise one, so it’s complex and fun –and it’s probably why I like these to their L’Oreal siblings.   I used #20 (obsidian black) and #23 (madre perla) which are from Giorgio Armani Beauty Summer 2012 collection.  Since both are sparkly shimmery, I included an almost matte shade to get contrast not only with shades but with finishes and for that I chose Nars Bavaria eyeshadow –from Nars Fall 2013 collection.

Pido una disculpa de antemano porque difuminé de más las sombras, así que Bavaria y Obsidian Black casi se funden.  En mi defensa, debo reconocer que las sombras no difuminadas están entre los terminados que me dan miedo –salvo que seas Britney Spears en el video de “I’m a slave for you” su cut crease es maravilloso.  ¿Por qué?  Simple, da la impresión de que te dieron un puñetazo en el ojo.  En fin, regresando a este look quiero mostrarles como se ve muy diferente a otro que hice hace como año y medio, y básicamente usé las mismas sombras –me encontré este look de forma inesperada mientras buscaba el nombre correcto del ETKi #20, puedes ver la entrada aquí.

I apologize since I over blended the eyeshadow, so Bavaria and Obsidian black practically fused in one shade.  In my excuse, I just feel non blended eyeshadows are among the most scary finishes I’ve seen –unless of course, It’s Britney Spears in “In a slave for you” video, her cut crease is incredible.  Why? Because most of the times it will look as if you got punched on your eye.  Anyway, this EOTD used mostly the same shades but looks totally different from one I did like a year and a half ago, and that I randomly found while googling the exact name for GA ETKi #20 –you can see the post here.
